Hi shirley,
I would think they would be at TNA too ?
Some are on A******** so if you give me name/place or reg or number I can have a look .
lola
Hi Lola5, thanks for your offer
Cant find any Army service records and inducations from searches show records are on A************ to which I dont have a paid sub.
I am trying to trace Edmund C Chalmer, Private, reg no S/8532, Rifle Brigade, he fought in France 1914-18 and his medal record show 2 medals, Victory and Britsh Star.
Thanks
Shirley
Shirley,
Was he a fisherman from Aberdeen and was his wife called Annie?
Lola5 hi
No our Edmund C Chalmer was born in Norway but his birth was registered with the British Consul so we think he may have had dual citizenship and we cant find him in Norway on 1910 census or he could have poss be in England 1910/11 as he had alot of family there. We come across the medal card and are just trying to prove if it is our Edmund.
Shirley
He;s not the one on A***** then, That's a pity. What does the C stand for. This one signs himself Edmund Charles Chalmers but then the Charles has been crossed out.
Hi Lola5
Thanks for your time looking, our Edmund is Edmund Christian Chalmer. So looks like we can rule the record out and keep looking.
Regards
Shirley
Hi Lola
Would you mind going back to the record and finding out if there is a DOB/age as I have been sent more info that Edmund C Chalmer did fight in WW1as a private in the British army. You said on the Record that Charles had been crossed out so it may be possible it is still the right one. Prior to WW1 our Edmund was piloting a british steamer.
Thanks
Shirley
Hallo Shirley,
I had another look and I could find no other Edmund Chalmer apart from that medal card record which merely gives , medal details, name and number which you already have but did you see the note made beside it about the reg. number being incorrect. This chap who made the note sems to have knowledge of the regiment and he may have further information.
I must now apologise here as it was an EDWARD Chalmer not Edmund(the fisherman with the wife Annie whose record it was I found.... with the middle name Charles crossed out. I looked at that one as I have an Edmund whose name was often mistranscribed as Edward and that was why I asked you if he was a fisherman from Aberdeen.
Having googled a bit and found the info on your Edmund Christian Boteler Chalmer, father Thomas and mother Augusta I can see Edward the fisherman bears no resemblance to yours.... Have looked on various sites but can find nothing. I thought each serving man would have some army record but maybe not or maybe some were lost. Have you found him on 1911 census?
Hi Lola5
No need to apologise over name mix up. Yes we have googled him to death and also in contact with person in Norway who found the reference to him serving in ww1 British army in a book. The National Archives in UK say alot of WW1 records were lost/destroyed etc and only about 40% survived. Thanks for your help and this one will remain open as you never know one day......., I hate to admit defeat.
