Thread: I dont know where to start?

I hope someone can help.
I have had a real interest in tracing my family tree for quite a while but never know where to start. Due to complications in my family theres a number of dead ends which doesnt help my motivation.
I have decided to start with my grandfather.

I'll start with what I do know:
His name is Donald Grimshaw.
I am almost certain he was born in Ireland and moved (I dont know when) to England and ended up in Birmingham.
My grandmother got pregnant (carrying my father) and their parents didnt approve as they weren't married, so their parents agreed not to let them have anything to do with each other.

What I don't know:
When he was born.
If he is dead.
What his parents' name are.
If he is married now.
Where he could live.
Everything about him really.

I hope I have given you enough information to be able to help me.

i dont know if you father is alive or not ( if alive we cannot put his details up) but can you put approx date he was born so we know what sort of time frame to be searching in. again any details of your grandmother that you know (i am assuming she is not alive or you would be asking her )
