Default Hannah Thalette Helmerson ~ Norwegian

I've been researching family history for 20ish years now, have done lots of Census transcriptions and help like minded to tumble down their brick walls, right now I am tying to help a Norwegian locate and trace the movements of an ancestor (second Cousin) her name is Hannah Thalette Helmerson born in Trondelag, Norway 14 Oct 1874 her last known location in Norway was Borge in Lofoten in 1891 it was thought she came to England, she was married twice to a Thomas D? (Douthwaite) and Frank? (Short) she had no children, I located a marriage for her in Tynemouth Mar qtr. 1903 Hannah Tallatthe Short to a Thomas Lovell Douthwaite, then found them on the 1911 Census, she gives her nationality as Norwegian but in the place of birth is Newark Montana, America, the enumerator has written in red 'Resident', so somehow she has made her way to America we are trying to track her time there, there is an entry on Ancestry; H. Helmerson, Civil: 15 Oct 1894 Montana. U.S. Naturalization Record Indexes, 1791-1992. (Indexed in World Archives Project) Citizenship & Naturalization Records, also it is told that her 1st husband died probably in the Boar War 1899 - 1902 and the Boer War Casualties are listed on Ancestry too there are a few F (Frank) Short I have been unable to locate a marriage to a Frank Short it is possible she married in America. Would anyone be able to have a look to see if it is Hannah on the Naturalisation Record and check the Boer War list, I realise I am asking a lot being a 'newby' but I would so appreciate any help with this.

    Hi KathE,

Welcome to Ancestry Aid. I have moved your request from the 'Introduce yourself Forum' to here where it should attract more interest.

I looked at the naturalisation record on Ancestry, H Helmerson was male and born in Finland

Hello KathE and welcome to AA. Good luck with your research. I hope you spend many happy jours tracing your ancestry on the site. I looked for a marriage to a Thomas Douthwaite but I couldn't find anything. However we have lots of excellent researchers here who are more than willing to help .

Thank you Pejay, I have the details of the marriage to Thomas Lovell Douthwaite Mar qtr 1903 Reg. at Tynemouth , its the 1st marriage which is being elusive, as she married Thomas Lovel Douthwaite in the name of Short we can only presume that this is the surname of 'Frank' as the family information goes and it is he who was a casualty possibly in the Boer War, which took place 1899 - 1902, if this was the case Hannah would be a widow and free to marry, I think the Marriage Cert will have to be purchased to confirm her Status at the time of marriage. Thanks again for the welcome

    Hallo KathE
If Frank Short was in the services then you won't find his marriage on A******* but on FMP. But was he in army or RN?
There are 4 F Shorts casualties of the Boer war. FF Short died 26 Jan 1901 Naaw Poort. Ist Dragoons
    F. Short died 29 March 1902 Bethlehem, Grenadier Guards
Fw Short Prisoner 8 Dec 1900 Verterstad , District Mounted Troops and
    Short wounded, 24 April 1900 Groofontein , 8th Hussars

Frank Short born Hartlepool Durham Soldier no.19/761
Frank Short, birthplace not given, no. 201575
Frank Short born Warrington Lancs . no. 161028
and a Frank Norman Short born Birmingham no 48236
    All casualties.
    Ff Short Lance Corporal death.
    1900'1902
and F. Short Private . same years.
There is also a Frank Short in the navy who fits Born 1877 age 24 on 1901 census married and in Royal Navy at sea in port abroad. But all is just supposition.
There is also a marriage for a Frank Spring Short at Portsea Island Hampshire in 1898

Lola5, Thank you so much for all these details, I did notice the Portsea Marriage which would fit into the scheme of things, but I will digest all the details you have kindly entered here, again thanks for all your efforts it is much appreciated.
