    Default Adlam/stephen

G'day all, I am trying to find information on my ADLAM ancestor. Her name was Margaret ADLAM, born c. 1800, where, I do not know. I have her father as Alexander ADLAM, a St Kitts (St Christopher, W.I.) merchant. I also have information to say that he was a merchant in London, as well. Margaret married c. 1820, (her death certificate says, Bermuda), to Sidney (Sydney) STEPHEN. Sidney was born in the W.I. He belonged to a well known (in the UK as well as the W.I.) legal family. In about 1828, Margaret and Sidney came with their family as well as others of the STEPHEN family to New South Wales/VDL. Sidney took a posting to New Zealand, as a judge, he dying there, 1861, in Auckland, where he is buried. Margaret came back to Australia, settling in Melbourne, where her family was then residing. Margaret died in Melbourne in 1875.
I have been onto message boards in the W.I. as well as others, looking for help but so far have not been able to find out anything.

If anyone can help me, it would be very much appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Kindest regards,

    ronmac

    Hallo,
I assume you have all info on Sidney James Stephen. The teara site gives his birth as Somerleague Somerset 1797., son of John Stephen , judge in St. Kitts who went to NZ and Stepehn went with him. Stephen then moved to Australia. No mention of his wife. but of a brother Alfred Stephen.
I cannot find Margaret's birth on any of the Caribbean sites. Maybe she was born in Jamaica W. I as there were Adlams there.
A William Adlam owned a plantation in the parish of St. Elizabeth.
Would thing that Alexander Adlam may have been a ship owner. Do you have any onfo on him other than that he was a merchant in London at some time? I cannot find his birth yet.

Hello Lola5, Thank you for answering me. Sorry for not replying sooner, as I have not been on this site in ages. Yes, I do have a lot of information on Sidney Stephen. Margaret Adlam is the brick wall for me. I have Alexander Adlam as her father and he was also a merchant in St Kitts (St Chrisopher, West Indies), as well as a merchant in London. Perhaps he was born/died in the WI. I have written to various family boards on the WI/Caribbean and I have not had a reply at all, so maybe there is no information on him either. There are plenty of Adlams in the WI and quite a number in New Zealand, as well as here in Australia but not having any luck with Margaret and her father Alexander at all. I'll just keep looking from time to time for her. I won't let her beat me. Once again, many thanks. ronmac.
