Default Researching John Huntley of Wiltshire 1760+

Hi I've been absent for a while - living life - but now back looking for the dear departed! I'm looking for a marriage for John Huntley in Wiltshire or Somerset around the year 1789. I've come across some sources, mainly from baptism records of their children, stating his wife's first name is Grace, but no last name is listed. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello & welcome back. How sure are you that John married a Grace? I have not found anything either Wiltshire or somerset with a bride that name.

Hi Peejay; thank you for your reply. I have a number of baptism index books put out by the Wiltshire Family History Society. One index listing baptisms in the Wingfield, Wiltshire district, show my g/g/g/grandtfather and his siblings all listed with parents named John and Grace. Unfortunately I don't have a corresponding index for marriages so I'm kind of stumped right now.

Peejay, a further thought. The baptismal index list their first born daughter's name as Grace as well. She was baptised May 29, 1891. It may be a transcription error. I've come across a number of those! Do you have any information on a John HUNTLEY marrying around that time period?

    Thanks, again.

Sorry I have looked and still cannot find a marriage to Grace. Yes transcriptions can be common. Was it an original record you saw? have you got any childrens names - it may help. Or perhaps you need to send off for one of the children's birth cert it would give the mother's name. Perhaps hermiddle name was Grace?

Thanks Pejay. Yes I have a list of their children, but am not sure where I have to look for birth certificates and the such befor 1837. as I stated, my 3x great-grandfather was one of their children. Can you suggest an avenue which I can use to obtain a birth certificate from that era?

    Thanks again,

    Dan
