Default Looking for info on William Goodall (Gooddel)

    Hit another brick wall...

Any info on William Goodall (Gooddel) b. prob around 1780-1795 likely in Devises area, Wiltshire.
    Wife Elizabeth (nothing else known).

He had a son James Goodall b.1801 Potterne and Cannings, West Lavington, Wiltshire, England
    d. 1874? in Devises, Wiltshire.

James was married (10 Feb 1819) to Sarah Dark b. 1794 Little Cheverell, Wilts. and they had 4 children. Assume Sarah died around 1835-1836 as he remarried (25 Dec 1837) to Ann Baish b.1812 Littleton Pannel, Wiltshire, and had a further 8 children between them.

This is the male line direct from myself which is why I have an interest in tracing it back further.

    Any help greatfully received.

    Thanks,

    Mike.

    Thanks Milford Lass.
This could be the correct William assuming that he was born in 1785 or before and then Christened/baptised later, as he had the first child in 1801, 2nd in 1804.
Would this have been normal to be Christened or baptised several years after birth?

    Thanks Elaine,
I'm sure that it's the correct James Goodall but didn't know about his sister.
Southbroom is actually in Devises, not far from the rest of the family in Potterne, just down the road.

It's proving difficult when you get back to before 1800.

Thanks, that could explain it then; I'll stick with that William unless something else turns up.

Thanks to your help folks I have now found what I believe to be William Goodall's Father, Mother and Grandfather.

William Goodall (Gooddel) b. before 1785 Potterne, Wiltshire. Baptised later 26 Apr 1789
Father James Goodale b. c.1756 Potterne, Wiltshire. Christened 27 Jan 1756
Mother Sarah Hobbs (No further info, despite one in that area but wrong spouse)

Grandfather William Goodale (recorded as James' father but no other details)

No other details on the above found on IGI, will check Ancestry but not hopeful.

Slow progress but I'm getting there; any further help welcome of course.

    Mike.

1789 9 Nov GOODALL John of Worton DARK Leah of Worton Banns
    Witnesses: William Goodall, Joseph Goss

Have a look at the baptisms for William, James and Sarah are his parents plus you will find siblings, sister Sarah baptised the same day. Spotted another sister but not gone through thoroughly, enjoy
