    Default Irish Puzzle

Hoping I can get some help from the Irish experts.
I have via millitary records found the mother and father of Patrick Boylan Born 1864 in Dublin. A huge wall came down when the mothers name was found.

Father was John also of Dublin in the military, mother was Mary.
43, BRUNSWICK STREET, DUBLIN NORTH.Is the address given for Mary in 1890 as per WWI records.Parish of St Cathrine's, Dublin, Ireland was given on this record.
On the full military records Parish given as St Michans.

Is it possible to find a marriage record for Mary and John Boylan.I know they had at least one other child Christina as also listed as sister next of kin on military record.

I am happy to be at least over the wall but the feild is huge when looking for the marriage.Any help always appreciated.

I’d be inclined to try and get Patrick Boylan’s birth certificate as that should give you the mother’s maiden name. Birth registration only started in Ireland in 1864 so this was the very first year of registration. I have seen reports that about 10% of births were not registered in the early years. However most were. There is only 1 Patrick Boylan birth in Dublin in 1864. That was registered in Dublin South dist Volume 2, page 574. There was also a John Patrick Boylan birth in Dublin North Volume 2, page 469. I cannot say whether either is the correct event for your Patrick but you may feel it worthwhile getting a copy of one or both given how few there were registered. You can order a photocopy from GRO Roscommon for €4 each (around $7 NZ) provided you quote the place, year, Volume & page number on the order form and they don’t have to do any searching for you. It takes about 10 days from when they receive your order. www.groireland.ie/

I did also note a marriage for a John Boylan and Mary Kenny on 23.7.1848 in St Andrews parish, Dublin on the following site. www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html

Dublin has parishes named St Michans and St Catherine’s so both could be correct. No sign of any Boylans in the 1901 & 1911 censuses for Brunswick St. Looks as though the family moved about a bit.
