Apparently anyone can have any number of certs if they are needed for insurance or whatever.
Hi Countrymouse sorry - all I can tell you are the same things. When my Dad died we had to get three as most places will not accept copies of them.

Thanks Pejay. I have never had to deal with a death myself but have just been given some certs to copy and found two for one person. I didn't know you could just ask for them, but I queried it with the local registry officce who told me.
Hi love your avatar, he/she looks very fierce.

Hi,
Death cert copies (and any other cert copies) that you buy are a copy of the original. This is not the question being asked. In this case there seem to be two originals om comsecutive number order, and the death registered twice on the same day. If the second certificate is exactly the same down to the last detail, including the person who reported the death, I don't know, but I would suggest that a mistake was thought to have been made on the first and instead of just signing the mistake, the registrar made out a second. Either that, or he just got his underwear in a twist and made out two. Neither document could be destroyed by law, so went into the system as usual.

The certificates I have belong to a close relation and have been passed on to me. I was curious about there being two consecutively numbered so I asked the local register office. They said it was possible to have as many as you like.
Thanks for commenting on my avatar, Pejay, it is just one I chose from the selection. Our own cat isn't fierce at all!
These are consecutive numbers! they were not copies. Apparently if you have them all done at the same ime - it works out a bit cheaper. So many people want to see the death cert and it is usually better to have a few just in case
