Hi everyone,Im new to this site, i was wondering if someone can take a look at the Thirsk Parish Records for a baptism. The name is William Hairyes he was born approx 1827 and his fathers name was Wiliam Hairyes,thanks

Have you tried alternative spellings in your search for William? The surname is unusual and probably was misheard and mistranscribed frequently.

Have you found ANY reference to William on records, eg census returns or a marriage?

Do you know the name of his mother?

Is this William in 1861?

William Hairyes 30, Balk York's, Ag. Lab
Anna 25, York's
Henry 1, Harrogate

If the 1861 above is him, in 1871 he says he was born in Scotland.

Deaths Jun 1890 (if this is your William, have you found him in 1881?)

Hairyes William, age 59 Bramley 9b/270

In 1881, William says he was born on the ocean.

Do you have the 1871 and 1881 census returns, if not let me know and I'll post details.

As you know William's father's name was William do you have one of William's marriage certificates? If so, can you please post ALL details including father's occupation and witness names.

I am assuming you know William was married twice.

1st marriage

Dec qrt 1858, Knaresborough, 9a/154, William Hairyes also indexed Hannah Tipling.

2nd marriage

Sept qrt 1867, Knaresborough, 9a/132, William Hairyes and Elizabeth Hogg

Deaths Jun 1867, Knaresborough, Hannah Hairyes, age 28, 9a/74,

Actually, he was married three times.

Here's the death of 2nd wife Elizabeth.

Deaths Jun qrt 1882, Bramley, Leeds, 9b/246. Elizabeth Hairyes age 41.

And William's third marriage..............

William Hairyes 50, (Porter) widower, to Mary Ann Hays, 25, spinster, at New Wortley Parish Church, June 8th 1885, William's father - William (Lawyer) deceased, Mary Ann's father - William (Miller) deceased. Witnesses - William Thomas and Sarah Cotton.

William signed his name, Mary Ann left her mark.
