Default Alfred Stevens Born Isle Of Wight

    Hi To All
I have hit a brick wall and was wondering if anyone could help. I am havingt trouble finding any Birth certs or marrage lines for my gt gt Grandad. Alfred Stevens Birth abt 1818 in Isle Of White , and died on the 6 January 1892 in Sussex, East Sussex, United Kingdom
England. But i can't find any info,, also he is on a few census dates in Brighton,
England. He is on a census as married to Georgeiana Julia Bradley, But she is using her middle
name Julia by the looks of things. On the census forms i have him as a yougster
but it states he was born on The Isle Of Wight, so i thought there would be records for him, but i don't see any. It's a mistery. I thought it is possable he was not married, but he would still have a birth cert for him. Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks Stars

Stars - I am a little confused you say you have Alfred on a census as a youngster but he was born approx 1818. The earliest census would be 1841 do you have this one? perhaps he was married to Julia by this time.Registration in England and Wales started in sep? 1837 and was a bit patchy to say the least. Before this we are looking at parish records. Have you looked on the IGI at all to see if he is there? also any idea whereabouts in the I.O.W?. let us know what census you have. I am sure someone will be able to help you

    Hallo Stars,
Looked but cannot find a marriage for either of them.
What happened to Julia born 1871 Brighton. Did she die before next census?
Do you have a birth cert for her or for Alfred?
Do you know if Georgina Julia had connections with Somerset as there is a death of a Julia Stevens in Bristol in 1873.
Looked at the genuki site. Found no births /marriages etc for Stevens but plenty for STEPHENS. And if one finds one that fits you can click on the number beside it which then lets you fill in a form to order a cert. What a good way to do things.
One Alfred Stephens to a Charlotte Stark in 1850. Given the difference in ages between Alfred and Julia might he have been married before?

    Hi stars

You may need to get Alfred juniors birth certificate to find his mother’s maiden name!

For Alfred b 1818 you need to look at parish records ( certification started 01/07/1837) try these sites: www.familysearch.org and Hampshire on line Parish Chest http://www.knightroots.co.uk/

There is a user submission marriage on the ‘old’ familysearch site which may not be reliable.

    A baptism
08 SEP 1864 Brighton, Sussex, England
Alfred William STEVENS s/o Alfred STEVENS & Georgina Julia BRADLEY STEVENS
    Film Number: 178109
    Page number: 273
Reference number 9209 you need to check this as there are several entries I suggest you look at the original parish record entry ( at a local LDS center)

Have you thought that the parties may not have married as Julia still uses her maiden name?

Check out the local Family History Society http://website.lineone.net/~mcgoa/contents.html
