    Default Samuel Matchett

I'm trying to find parents and siblings of Samuel Mathett, born 1781 in Banbridge Country Down Ireland. They may be of either English or Scottish extraction. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did your Samuel end up in Canada? There's an 1851 census record for a Samuel Matchett in Quebec. Also there's a Samuel Matchett, born in Banbridge in 1813, is this an ancestor of yours? Just assembling some background in case I come across anything more significant

    Default Canada, yes!

    Hello, Orinoco 77,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, "my" Samuel Matchett did end up in Canada, abd was buried in Point Round, Quebec in 1854. However, I don't think the younger Samuel Matchett is one one of my direct ancestors.

"My" Samuel Matchett married Sarah Marianne Shields in Banbridge. County Down in 1820.
Their children include Jus, Richard (1803-1862), Elizabeth (1820-1880), William A. (1822-1904), James (1823-1839), John H. (1828-1891). John is the last child born in Ireland; between his birth and that of his next younger sibling, the family emigrated to Canada. Nancy was born in Quebec (1830-1900), Jane (1835-1897; my great grandmother), Mary (1835--), Sarah (1842-1915), Margaret (1842-1881), and James Shields (1845-1911).

Also, there is a Jonathan Matchett, linen maker, in Banbridge in 1766. I don' know if this is direct link or not.

I hope this information somehow helps find the right Matchett ancestors in Ireland.

    Thanks!

Apologies for the less than prompt nature of this reply! I've not come across anything of interest so far, but I should get some time in the next couple of days to have a proper look.
