GRO dilemma

I need help as how to order from GRO online
as the baby was unnamed at the time of birth ,First name albeit(back in 1912)
and one can't order from GRO without mentioning first name
as it's a mandatory field
though now we know the first name

so what to do
option 1 ) put first name as Unnamed
option 2) put first name as what we know now

please help me out in this

Hi

If it was me I'd go for option 1 and option 2 followed by the father's name and the mother's maiden name. However if the child's name as you know it now
doesn't match up with the parents name then the GRO won't send out the certificate.

Yes I would go for option 1 - but maybe they would haveapplied for another cert after they had named the baby. Is there a phone number for the GRO or a helpline or something like that so you could try phoning them or sending an email before you pay out for a cert

Hello - before you spend money I will have a look at the births if you post what you know - name place year - even if they are a guess and or parents names- as after 1911 the mothers maiden name can be used as identetity as well.

I would advise you to email the GRO <certificate.services@ips.gsi.gov.uk>;

Provide them with the relevant details eg: Khan (male), father's name, mother's name, born at sea 1912, onboard the ship Angora. Are you certain he was born on the Angora?
