Joanna Bourke married Richard Craig Sep Q 1857 Plymouth
In 1861 her age was shown as 39 (b c 1822), born Brentor, Devon. In 1871 her place of birth was given as Lamerton, but as much of Brentor was, at that time, in Lamerton this is not inconsistent.
From 1881 and 1891 censuses, as Joanna Tregear, her year of birth is calculated as 1823 but her place of birth is still shown as Brentor/Lamerton. I have not been able to find her in 1841 or 1851. As she was 35 when she married Richard Craig it is possible that that was not her first marriage, but I have found no record that suggests a possible earlier union nor any death of a Mr Bourke that might indicate her widowhood. I am working on the assumption that it was unlikely that she moved far from West Devon but not totally ignoring the possibility that she spent part of her life further afield.
I am interested in a Joanna, born 1822, in Brentor/Lamerton who "disappears" after 1851 and I am considering the possibility that Joanna Bourke might be my girl, which is why I am anxious to identify her more conclusively, if possible without the expense of purchasing a copy marriage certificate.
I would greatly appreciate any possible "sightings" of her prior to 1857.
