I have almost finished my family history 'book' but am sadly lacking in details about my Scottish Great Grandmother. Her name was Margaret Ewart - born 1845 in Ayr. Father was Thomas Born 1793-96 in Ayr, mother Elizabeth Bryan, Born/Chr 1794, St Quivox & Newton. I have found records for Elizabeth but nothing about Thomas. He may have been a soldier. Could someone please look up Census records for me for Thomas and Elizabeth Ewart - 1841, 1851 and 1861. I have already spent quite a few $$ on other Scottish records-our exchange rate is never very friendly either. Any help would be welcomed. Any way I could help anyone from here in NZ??? Please feel free to ask. Many of our Immigration records are now online.

If Margaret married an Alexander Morrison, then they are all together minus Thomas, this Elizabeth is born Leith Edinburgh

but there is also another Elizabeth Ewart in the workhouse born Ayr

Hi Elaine i saw that too , i noted too census werent correct on birth dates but at times they werent , hoping Kate may let us know if on right family .

Thanks for your replies. I should have said that Margaret married Thomas McGrail in New Zealand in 1873. She emigrated to Otago in 1865.
Chris - Thanks for the info that Thomas was born in Ireland. Probably why I could find no info about him. Was there anything to say what his occupation was? I'll check out the family members' details tomorrow from the 1841 Census. My membership for Ancestry has run out and I don't want to have to pay more now for a few final checks. Elizabeth's maiden name was Bryan - I have found details and certificates for her family going back three generations-from Scotland's People. I'll check again here over the next couple of days but will be away from computer from then on for a wee while. Thanks again. I wish I had found this site earlier in my researching days!

As Elizabeths maiden name Bryan would it be her father and family on the 1841 census ? Will also look at what i can find .
