Hi, I would like some help please. I have traced the DAVIS/DAVIES family to Barnsley, Yorkshire where they appear from 1841 census. However, they appear to come from ireland according to the census returns. I cannot pick up any trail from Ireland and would like to know where they lived and whether they were immigrants following work or long term Irish settlers.
Detail
Thomas Davis b1796-99 Ireland married Mary/Maria Blott b 1799-1805 - somewhere in Ireland around 1820. They moved to Barnsley around 1830(Maria born in Barnsley)
Occupation(Thomas): linen hand loom weaver
Children: Thomas b1821 in Ireland; James b1826 in Ireland; George b1829 Ireland; Maria b1837 Barnsley; Phoebe b1840 Barnsley; Jane b1842 Barnsley
The baptisms and weddings point to Protestant rather than Catholic religion.
There may be a brother or more Davis family around Barnsley as there is a Joshua Davis b1810 Ireland married to Alice Hillyard b1818 Ireland with more children.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you.
