Exclamation Looking for John Boylan Army Pensioner

I have hit a large wall when trying to find information on JOHN BOYLAN. What I know is that he had two children, Patrick born in Ireland, dublin 1863-1865 and Christina (noted as Patricks sister on his military record which I have). John is listed as Patricks father on Patricks wedding certificate in 1893 his occupation was listed as army pensioner.
I have Patricks death certificate(1919) no further information on his father there.

I would love to find information so I can order Patrick's birth certificate as it may have more information about John his father.
Patricks military history shows that Patrick was from the parish of St Micheal, Dublin. He is roman catholic. He joined the 46th Brigade when he was 14.Next of kin listed as his sister Christina(assume she was older??)
I have no information on John's wife (Patrick's mother),being Roman catholic ,John must have married to be listed as a father on a wedding certificate. I dont know where John was born or when.

what we know on time line
Parick born sometime between 1864-1866 (noted as being 28 years on marriage cerificate in Feb 1893)
So a marriage involving John would be sometime previous to 1864
John was still alive in 1893 as not listed as deaceased on Patrick's marriage certificate. ( note that Patrick was stationed in maidstone Kent when he married, his father was not a witness)

John would have to be at least 48(guessing 20 when son born plus 28 being his sons age) at the time of his sons marriage which would give 1845 as the latest birth year but likely to be before this so could have beeen born as early as 1820.
Have look on the 1901 Irish census but there are two many possiblities with the name and not knowing anything else.
In 1901 his son Patrick was recorded in england with his family but his father is not listed with him.

Unsure where to go from the information I have. If you all could help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello Not sure these are relevant. Will list them

Marriage John Boylan. Micknanston.Co. Meath Mariage to Miss Belley. of same county. Feb. 1808

Marriage John Boylan. Miss Dempsey. May 1803. One of these maybe John's Bowlan Parents.

I could not find anything about Patrick Birth. I will try to search again.

    1. Statutory recording of births only started in Ireland in 1864, and in the early years not every birth was registered. (I have seen reports that 5 – 10% of births in the late 1860s did not get registered). So if he was born before 1.1.1864 there won’t be a birth certificate, and even after that there is a possibility it wasn’t registered. However you may be able to find his baptism.
    2. If you know that Patrick came from St Michael’s parish in Dublin, you might want to search the parish records for his birth. Copies should be in the National Library in Dublin. The records for St Michael & Johns go back to the mid 1700s so the records for the years you are interested in should have survived. (Note that there is also a St Michan’s which is a separate parish).
    3. You assume that John Boylan was alive in 1893 because it doesn’t say deceased on Patrick’s marriage certificate. Registrars weren’t always exact on this point at that time and sometimes a person may be dead but it doesn’t say deceased. If you don’t find a death post 1893, you should look for a death before that date.
