Perry Easter and/or Perry Smith?
I have a mystery you might be able to throw some light on. Could Perry Easter and Perry Smith be one and the same person? It appears to me that his marriage threw him for some reason and he changed his name from Easter to Smith for the marriage ceremonies only. Had he been married before? Was it simply because he was marrying an Ann Easter who was of the same family and too close for comfort? Would it been thought rather odd an Easter marrying an Easter? Was there some other reason or may be I am just barking up the wrong tree? The following as I piece it together.
First as PERRY EASTER 1818 - Born Hales, Norfolk and Christened 27 December 1818 Hales, Norfolk. Father William Easter, Mother Elizabeth Maria Cooper
Then as PERRY SMITH 1843 - Banns read at St Nicholas Church Great Yarmouth on 3rd Sept, 10th Sept and 17th Sept. PERRY SMITH and ANN EASTER both of this Parish.
Marriage 25 Sept, St Nicholas Church Great Yarmouth PERRY SMITH bachelor to Ann EASTER spinster. Perry’s father shown as William SMITH (But is not a witness). Perry signs with his X mark
Back to PERRY EASTER 1845 - Birth of Mary Easter 13 June Father PERRY EASTER
Mother ANN EASTER. Informant PERRY EASTER who signs with a X. Followed in
1847 - Birth of Charles Easter 23 September. Father PERRY EASTER Mother ANN EASTER. Informant PERRY EASTER who signs with a X
1851 Census shows him as PERRY EASTER resident in Raveningham, Norfolk with ANN EASTER and their three children. Died as PERRY EASTER in1859 Hales, Norfolk
If you could put some light on this puzzle it would be great.
