Greetings from a first time user,
I have been researching my family tree/genealogy for a few years now
with some good successes: however one area is proving impossible. My maternal grandmother, Margaret Agnes Hyslop, born Pietermarizburg South Africa 1883, married first to a Walter Millar, before marrying my grandfather at St Pancras London, June 1913. I have a copy cert. where she is described as the divorced wife of Walter Millar. My grandfather was Charles Ernest Daniel. I can find no record of MAD's first marriage or divorce. I am particularly interested as to whether any children ensued from the first marriage and indeed when she arrived in England prior to her 2nd marriage. I have found her on passenger lists arriving from Durban 1903 and leaving 1904, both as Miss M.A. Hyslop, but after that, nothing. Family rumour from SA cousins is that she went to Australia to marry Millar: however I can find no Australian, South African or indeed English records of marriage or divorce concerning Millar ??
My grandfather CED, left Haileybury school at the age of 16 in 1904, but again I can find no record of him before his marriage in 1913. He does not appear on the 1911 census; so I suspect that he could well have been abroad, perhaps South Africa ? He served throughout
WW1 in the 4th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, which I understand was a territorial battalion, becoming Captain in 1915. Any help/tips would be appreciated
