    Exclamation David Roberts

My great X3 grandfather, David Roberts, married Rose Walker at St James in Bristol on 9th December 1809 - Rose was a minor and married with parental consent. In David Roberts' 1857 will he bequeathed a drawing of the ship Jamaica to his son James Walker Roberts.

    I have four queries:

    1. Was Rose's father J. Walker - the master of the Jamaica for 1807-1808 is listed in Lloyds Register of Shipping as J Walker?

    2. What was J.Walker's full name and when and where was he born?

    3. Where/where was Rose born?

    4. Who was Rose's mother and where and when was she born?

    Many thanks!

    Hello

When you state the marriage was 'with oarental consent' have you seen any documentation in connection with this?

Have you identified the family on the census, if so can youplease state the cewnsus reference numbers!

The only 2 areas you mention are Jamica and Bristol UK!!!! Big search area!

Hello Elsabels: Many thanks for your response, so sorry for not having responded to your queries before today... apologies ....

I have seen a transcript of the marriage in a book. David Roberts married Rose Walker by licence 9/12/1809 in the Parish of St James Bristol.
Rose must have died before 1841 as she is not listed on either the 1841 or the 1851 census returns. The 1841 census for St James & St Pauls Bristol HO 107/377/14; Page 21; Fiolio either 21 or 31 only lists David Roberts aged 62, his son David aged 21 and daughter Rose aged 19.

David Roberts' WILL proved 1857 refers to his wife Rose in the past tense.
Two vessels are mentioned in the WILL
    1. drawing of the Jamaica
    2. painting of the steam frigate "? Sesosirus???" [I can't decipher the writing]

I know the master of the Jamaica was a Captain J Walker - could he have been related to Rose? ...Bristol and Jamaica makes one think about the slave trade....

David's children mentioned in the WILL are:
    James Walker Roberts
    Edward Roberts
    David Roberts
    Rose Walker Roberts
    Lucy Roberts

    Many thanks for any assistance.
