Dempsey - Corboy Families - England to USA

Looking for people researching either the Dempsey or Corboy line. Martin Dempsey, born 1846 in Leeds, West Riding, Yorkshire, England married Ellen Corboy or Curboy born 1815 in Warrington,Lancaster, England. The were married in 1868 at St. Albans Chapel in Warrington, England. They came to USA around 1870 or 1871. Martin's father is William and Ellen is John. Trying to find more information on their parents or siblings. Have information on family in USA that I can share.

The only Martin Dempsey I can see born Leeds circa 1846 has father named Martin. I've tried to find 'your' Martin and Ellen on US census returns but failed, the only Martin and Ellen I found were born in Ireland.
Please can you tell us a little more about him, where he lived in the US, his occupation, childrens names, when he died and any other info which may help us to trace his roots in England.
What evidence do you have that he was born in Leeds?

I don't think that can be him, Noggin. He was still in Leeds and unmarried in 1871

there is a guy on ancestry with the person in his tree with the details that noggin has given, i did a search with the
parents you gave for martin and the tree popped up the persons name is john dempsey the owner of the tree (lives in florida) also has grandparents on for Ellen
there also and a photo of that couple, would you like me to email him for you.

The Dempsey tree on Ancestry referred to by Milford Lass has a link to the 1861 census, it has Martin Dempsey living in Lancashire, born 1844 in Ireland (not Leeds). The Martin Dempsey born Leeds was son of Martin, not William, and was still in Leeds in 1881.
1861 census, living Little Bolton, Lancs. All born Ireland, except the three youngest who were born in Bolton, RG9; Piece: 2823; Folio: 115; Page: 20;

On the 1910 US census Martin is entered as born Ireland, immigration year 1870. All this documented evidence suggests Martin was NOT born in Leeds.
Jack, can you please say what evidence you have which suggests Martin was born in Leeds, Yorkshire. The English census records certainly don't support this.

Thanks Elsabels. So, it seems you, me and Welshlady all reached the same conclusion that Martin was most likely the one in Little Bolton. He definitely isn't the one born Leeds who is still in Leeds in 1881, will you please look at the image for 1851 HO107; Piece: 2320; Folio: 84; Page: 27 as I don't think his age is 6, let me know what you think.Originally Posted by Elsabels
