    Smile Richard Tate

    Hi everyone

Really struggling to dig out some more information on my 2nd Great Grandfather - Richard Tate. Born in Terrington, Yorkshire in 1845 . The census for 1881 shows him as a Basket Maker Domestic Servant in the N Riding of Yorkshire Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Clifton - RG11, piece 4718, folio 121 (not sure if he was working or a resident) and in 1891 I have him at home in Terrington & Wiganthorpe with his wife Martha, 3 sons and a daughter. However, I cannot find him prior to 1881 or after 1891 - I am getting no results when I key his name.

I am also trying to track down details of the family of my father's brother. His name was Lesley Raymond Tate born on 7th July 1920 - sadly he passed away in October 1957 but prior to that he moved to Islington and twins Rosemary and Raymond were born in 1945 (I think). I do not have a lot of detail but I think Rosemary and Raymond both got married at different times in 1969. Raymond in Jan/Feb/Mar to Collis and Rosemary in Jul/Aug/Sep to Ferry both marriages took place in the district of Elstree. Any information to build that side of the family tree would be great. Can you help?

    Thanks

    Hello

I think if you look closely at the entry for relation to head of house you will see Basket maker att't I think your ancestor was an 'employee' and not an inmate!

    1861 census
    RG9 3628 11 17
    TEASDILL Robert head 1798
TATE James 49 brother in law
    TATE Mary 44 sister

The family seem to be basket makers

Dave, my alternative was yet another snooker match! Hope the film was good!!

Presumably you are now happy that your man was not an inmate but looks as is he was an 'employee' basket making would probably be considered therapeutic, certainly it was a job followed by the blind, so maybe you need to look at the end of the page of the census returns to see if there is a tick in the box.

I still have a doll's wickerwork crib made by a blind family member in the early 1950's!!!!!! My daughter played with it and well maybe.....one day....

If you haven't then you need to get the original pArish Regisater entry's for your family, sometimes the officiating cleric has written notes as an aside.
