    I found a Albert H Gibson b 1863 Buckinghamshire Plus wife Elizabeth b1872 Manchester in 1901 with children Ellen b 1893 Cambridgeshire, Albert H b 1898 and Edith b 1900 in Glamorganshire.

Do you have the ref for their marriage, you state 1907. According to another census they where married in 1891 and the name is Albert E Gibson.

Knowing where they married would help trace Elizabeth Duncan

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1915
    Name: Elizabeth Duncan
    Year of Registration: 1907
    Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
    DISTRICT: Cardiff (1837-1974)
    COUNTY: Glamorgan, Monmouthshire
    Volume: 11a Page: 828

Does this confirm the marriage you found, and both Elizabeth and Albert both single ie no previous marriage. Do you have Ellen's birth cert?

How sure are you abouth her birth date and place of birth/registration? I have not found any for Manhester for approx years. Any clues about her parents? what about the census does it help? She should be on 1881, 1891 and 1901 census.I think you should try for a birth cert. It will give her parent's names etc, and you may feel a bit more confident about your research. There are no foolproof ways of knowing if you have the correct family. Sometimes it may take months or even years . Or unfortunately maybe never. You need to be very careful that you do not end up chasing the wrong family. Duncan is a Scottishname could the Father have been born in Scotland?

Hi, I presume this is the census you refer to? RG11; Piece: 3897; Folio: 68; Page: 7.

As this Elizabeth appears to be the only one who fits age wise and with a father named John I think it probably is 'your' Elizabeth. This Elizabeth seems to have been born in 1871 Jul-Sept, Ardwick, Manchester (Lancs bmd site). I cannot find her parents in 1891, have you found them after 1881? There is a possible death for her mother Mary: Sept 1882, Chorlton, age 38, 8c/443. And one for father John: Jun 1885, Chorlton, age 51, 8c/442. I'm not convinced the 1881 census has John's occupation as a Watchman, the writing is not clear at all but it doesn't look like Watchman to me. Perhaps someone else can take a look and give an opinion?

I note 'your' Elizabeth had a daughter named Edith, could she have been named after sister Edith aged 5 in 1881 census?

I have now found John in 1871 and yes he was a Watchman. Does the marriage certificate say if Elizabeth's father was deceased?

Strangely however the 1871 has John 35, Thomas 11 and Mary 2. Thomas was entered as 14 in 1881???. Also Mary (mother) isn't with them but John's status is married.

I suggest you look at marriages and deaths for Elizabeth Duncan's and if there are none which fit with the one in 1881 assume you've found your gal. I cannot think of any other way to prove or disprove whether she's yours.

Yes, it would be a great help if we could find her in 1891. I have searched but so far been unsuccessful. Have you looked for the siblings of Elizabeth Duncan (father John, mother Mary)? Also where was Mary in 1871?

Whether or not they are your ancestors', their daughter Elizabeth cannot be found in 1891, yet! If the deaths I posted are Elizabeth's parents' she is most likely either in service, or staying with family. I think I found Edith in service, but I've not looked for the other siblings.
