I am new to all of this but finding it fascinating. My maiden name is DARKE, and we have so far traced the name back to my Gt Gt Grandfather Robert DARKE. He was born in July 1851 in Plymouth, Devon, UK. He married Mary A ? and is the father Frederick DARKE, born in Plymouth in 1880.

I cannot find his wife's maiden name, his mother Sarah's maiden name or anything about his father at all. The censuses show that Sarah lived alone with her two sons, Robert and John W Darke, but she was still listed as "wife".

I am especially curious as to what happened to his father, but any info on any of these people would be so much appreciated as I am at a dead end here.

Robert, his brother John W born 1854 and mother Sarah Ann born 1829 (all Plymouth) are on the 1861 and 71 census, living Plymouth. Robert in 1871 was a Carpenter and John a Plumber.
