    Exclamation ELSBY FAMILY- CHESHIRE

    ELSBY FAMILY- CHESHIRE

Hi. My brick wall for over a year has been with trying to find the birth of my 5x great grandfather James Elsby. I know from his death certificate that he would have been born circa 1763 but have been unable to locate him. He lived in and around Sandbach, Cheshire from 1790 onwards but my gut tells me that he wasn't born there.
He named his first son James, which means that if he followed Elsby tradition then his father is most likely called James as well. (He followed Elsby tradition by naming his second son after his wife's father).
Another problem is that he might not have been baptised as Elsby. He could have been baptised as a Helsby or even Welsby.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

    One for you to consider.

James Helsby, 27/1/1761 at Stoke near Chester, parents - Ebenezer and Martha. Taken from family search (Bishops Transcripts)

Thanks Slizzy. It's the closest one that I'd found as well, but my gut tells me it's not the one. There is a Jane Helsby born to a James in 1762 in Frodsham on family search. I'm wondering whether it has been transcribed wrong and should infact be James?
