Trying to confirm a pedigree for my paternal great grandfather John Greenow.
The information I know to be correct from his wedding certificate is that he married Clara Ellen Jenkins at the parish church of Holmer in Herefordshire on 25 Dec 1890 at which time he was listed as a 27 yr old labourer residing in Merthyr Tydfil. The certificate states his father was William Greenow, also a labourer at that time.
Moving forward he is listed on the 1891 Census in Merthyr Tydfil Abercanaid District at 7 Davids Square (with the wrong surname but family members listed confirm as correct person plus correct address as seen on certificates below) .
John GREENWOOD. hd marr aged 27. Labourer. born Hereford
Clara Ellen GREENWOOD wife aged 20. born Hereford.
William KENNETT. Brother in Law.age 24 unmarr Labourer born Hereford
Archibald JENKINS. Brother in Law.age 17 unmarr Labourer born Hereford.
At the time of my grandfathers birth 12 Feb 1894 John and Clara lived at 7 Davids Square, Abercanaid and John was listed as a coal miner. About 1900-01 Clara left John for Thomas Clarke and moved to Birmingham taking the children with her. By the time of my grandfathers marriage 19 jun 1919 he was still listed as a miner.
I am unable to trace either his birth or his death.
The 1871 census has a possible entry for him at Piece: RG10/2701 Place: Madley -Herefordshire Enumeration District: 9 Civil Parish: St Margarets Ecclesiastical Parish: Hereford Folio: 93 Page: 10 Schedule: 48 Address: Gelvah where the Smith family have a 9 year old Farm servant called John Greenow born in Newton Clodock, Herefordshire. This leads me to believe that he may be the son of William Greenow born 28 Oct 1832 and died 1869 at Clodock. However I can find no trace of him at all in the 1881 census or any info at all after 1894 except for the 1919 marriage certificate. Hence, I can't definitively connect him to any ancesterors/siblings.
