    Exclamation Philip James Devine

The birth certificate of an individual called Philip James Devine (1910) shows his parents as being James Devine and Lily McCaig. They were married on 14th December 1905 in Springburn according to a written statement on the son’s birth certificate. I need to find their wedding certificate and identify their parents. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, but I am finding it impossible to trace their wedding.

Additional information is that Lily McCaig’s father was born in Oban and served in the army. Lily appears to have been born in St Andrew, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1881 and it is possible that Duncan did not get married until 1884 in N-u-T. Lily is pregnant with a son to be called Duncan A McCaig in 1901 and appears on the census as being in Inverarary with her father Duncan, no sign of a husband or mother.

The problem I have is that a James Devine of Inveraray marries a Christina Fraser in 1914 and the rest is reasonably clear, marriage and then death in 1950. The James Devine who is supposed to have married Lily in 1905 and had the son PJ, in 1910 “seems” to be the same guy, but I cannot prove any more unless I have the wedding certificate.

Just found Lily and mother 1891, Duncan as stepson in Scotland, entry on census is very definite!
I was trying to help by looking round so may have duplicated the info, I don't have access to Scottish records so no luck with the marriage

Thanks for all that Elaine. I already had some of the Scottish bits. The big puzzle remains. What are Philip James Devine's details. Perhaps if you could get a hold of his army record there might be some useful information there.

    Thanks again for your help.
