Thread: William Halliwell

Trying to find the marriage of my great grandfather x 3. His name was William Halliwell and he married a woman called Ann. They lived in Gresford Wales circa 1800-1860. The first of their children was born in 1811:

These were found in the Gresford Parish Registers.
All the children entered for William and Anne /Ann of Allington,

1811 b March 8th Joseph
1812 b Dec 19th Charles
1814 b Nov 5th William
1816 b Nov 27th Hannah
1820 b Apr 10th James
1823 b July 12th Edward
1829 b Apr 14th George
1830 b Mar 27th Job (My Great Grand Father x 2)

I can not find anywhere any mention of a marriage between the two which is a shame as it is my brick wall, no fathers name etc.

There are several Public Trees on A******y but unfortunately none of them appear to have any marriage details.

I have birth, wedding and death certificates going back to William's GrandSon William Charles Halliwell.
I have also traced census records back to 1851 for William and his son Job (both living separately in wales in 1851 & 1861).
I have been researching my paternal line for about 10 years and have like most people been detoured a few times but I am 100% sure that the William & Ann Halliwell are my direct ancesters.
I just need to find any mention of a marriage for them. I can not see anything on the usual sites.
He and Ann are listed as being born in Gresford, Denbighshire, Wales in the 1851 Wales Census. No mention of him or Ann in the 1841 Census.
I think I have found his Baptism in Volume 4 Gresford 1773 =1810 registers listed as (1785 May 15th William Hallawell s/o Joseph of Allington.)
So I Think His father was Joseph but I would really like to try and find a record of marriage.
Yes the last name does change a bit over time and I have looked for all names that sound like Halliwell.
Yes I know that Halliwell is a mostly Lancashire name. ( I was born in Manchester...)
Therefore Williams father or grandfather may have moved over the cheshire border into wales.
However there is a place in wales called Holywell so who knows....
