thank you.
You say your family moved from Loughinisland to Drumcaw. Not sure about that. Drumcaw is a townland in Loughinisland parish. The different references may in fact refer to the same place.
Griffiths Valuation has records of a James HEGAN & William HEGAN renting separate houses, offices and land in Drumcaw townland in 1863. You can see the details on:
www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml
There’s an abstract (a summary) of a will relating to the family, on the PRONI wills site:
Effects £8 9s. 6d.
Full Abstract :
Administration of the estate of William Hagan (Junior) late of Drumcaw County Down Farmer who died 2 December 1896 granted at Belfast to Margaret J. Ellesmere of 3 Glenrosa-street Belfast (Wife of George Ellesmere) the Sister
The family appear to have left the townland by the 1901 census:

thank you for the quick response, there appears to be a lot of confusion between the names
hagan/hegan, I imagine it's down to whoever transcribes oral information & how they "hear" the name,
even now we still get called by variations of our name (hegan) I apologise for not knowing that drumcaw is a townland of loughinisland, I'm afraid that my knowledge of Irish locations is very poor, I found a reference to a moses hegan in mountain lodge demesne aghnamullen co. monaghan in griffiths valuation, whether or not it's the same person I don't know.
I do know that his father was james hagan/hegan married to jane melville his g/father was also called james hagan married to a sarah of claragh, I believe he had several siblings of both sexes also that he moved to greenock scotland & died there in 1901.
hope this information may be helpful
thank you
