Thread: John Brannigan

John was born 15 Aug 1825. Lived in Armagh. Died before may 1871. Cannot find any more info. Can you help.

Irish records in the 1800s can be a bit thin on the ground especially for someone who was dead by 1871.

Griffiths Valuation has a record of 2 John Brannigans in 1864, in Co. Armagh. One was renting land in Carrowmoney townland (parish of Mullaghbrack) and the other was renting in Dorsey (Creggan Parish). If you have no other leads, and you know John’s religion, you could search the relevant parish records for his existence.

Stat death records only started in 1864 so if he died before that you may not find a record of that. RC and Presbyterians tended not to keep burial records. Church of Ireland did.
