Thread: PROUTS OF DORSET

PROUTS OF DORSET - I have a George Prout, tailor, in my tree who married Elizabeth Grant in Holcomb Rogus, Devon in 1784. The family lived in Honiton for a while but ended up in Bampton, Devon where, in 1841, there was also a William Prout, tailor, of a suitable age to be George's father. I think William may be the son of Thomas Prout, tailor, of Litton Cheney. I know Thomas's son, William, served an apprenticeship in Ashbrittle a couple of miles from Bampton but I'm not sure it's the same William. I've searched high and low, without success, to close the loop between William and George and also to find William's baptism record. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, that's the right George and Elizabeth [Betty]. They married in Holcomb Rogus, obviously lived in Honiton for a while and ended up in Bampton, Devon. I haven't been able to find George's baptism record in Dorset, Devon or Somerset yet. Thanks.
