Thread: Keenan/McQuoid in County Down,IRL

Hello:
I have been searching for more than 10 years for the town of origins for my ggg grandparents; Felix and Sarah (McQuoid) Keenan; b. 1814/1809 IRL. Their son, my gg grandfather, John Keenan was baptized in Kircubbin, Co.Down in 1835. I have attempted to contact the local RC church to have them see if there were any additional clues to origins without any success.
Felix and Sarah immigrated to the Dearham, Cumberland, ENG area about 1845. Felix, per family records, had 2 brothers; John and Dionysius (Denis/Daniel) who also immigrated to Cumberland but are difficult to track as well.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Kircubbin (RC parish of Ardkeen) has baptism records that start in 1828. They have been copied by the LDS and you should be able to order a copy of them in to your nearest LDS library. However the records don’t always have the persons townland. It may just name the child, the sponsors and the relevant dates.

It might be worth going through the records for all the siblings, and perhaps for the parents marriage (if it was at that church) in the hope of finding clues from the other events.
