    Exclamation David Rollo

David Rollo: "Drowned - in Berwick Bay"

I have an entry in the Family Tree for a David Rollo, Shipmaster, born at Balmerino, Fife on 23 Sep 1810 who was 'Drowned - in Berwick Bay' on 3 Mar 1854. The information is from the Fife Family History Society pre-1855 Death Index and has been extracted from the Mitchell Monumental Inscriptions - presumably taken from a (commemorative) family gravestone inscription.

"Berwick Bay" begs the question, "Louisiana, USA or off the Scottish coast?

I've had a great deal of useful assistance through posts on this site in the past and feel sure someone out there will be able to provide the whole story for me.

    Hi elsabels

Thanks for responding ... nothing so far from local press and no mention of the ship! There's not a lot to go on but ...

From British Newspapers 1600-1900 - He was still the master of the "Catherine Spence" in 1853, mentioned in Dundee newspapers, sometimes carting coal out of Sutherland & Newcastle, another entry taking Jute to London. Can't see any mention of the "Catherine Spence" after 29/7/1853 but maybe search not picking it up.
