Default cant find a marriage between 1841 & 1851. or brides parents

    Hi.
I am looking for the marriage of Theodore Sadlier mansell & Jemima Redhouse.

Jemima was born 12 Feb 1823 in hoxton, middx. Baptised 25 sept 1829 St Leonards, Shoreditch.

she had a twin sister Elizabeth Redhouse.
Baptism says Parents: George Redhouse & Ann - georges occ. Lighterman. addr: Huntingdon Street.

The sister elizabeth was convicted of a crime but Jemima went on to marry Theodore Sadlier Mansell b 1814.

Theodores parents were John Barker mansell & Ann Knight.

In 1841 Theodore, age 25, was a Bank clerk in Hoxton Old Town, district 8, unmarried.
In 1841 Jemima Redhouse, age 15, living Hoxton market, ? drapier?

In 1851 they were living together as Theodore Mansell & Jemima Mansell
    1853, 1854 & 1857 they had 3 boys.

I have serached for a marriage for years and cant find one, have tried many variations on surnames and first names.

cant find jemima & elizabeths folks either, all i have is George the father was a lighterman in 1823.

    any ideas?

How do you know Jemima b 1823 is Jemima Redhouse if you do not have the Marriage Cert. Have you got it from Charles Barker Mansell, Theodore George Thomas Mansell or Harry Ambrose Mansell their childrens birth certs.
'' No one knows who we are or where we are going until we have been and gone ''.

I have been back and looked at Monique's site and she doesn't show a surname for Jemima!

Had a quick skim thro' the census and he ,entopms or rather the enumerator does West ( sic) India Co In 1891 he was a pensioner, unusual for the time Army???

yes. I got her names from the childrens certificates - Harry ambrose is my relation. i then traced her baptism as i havent found a marriage, its an unusual name and thats the only similarity that i have found. i know its wrong to presume that its her baptism without confirming from the marriage but i thought i may be able to prove it forward rather than prove it back.. just had no luck so far.

Monique copied my tree and has no further information that can assist me.

I have been in touch with Farmerbill who are researchers of the REDHOUSE name, they have done a one name study and they havent got my George and Redhouse listed and suggested it could be readhouse. (cant find anything under that either).
they did mention that there was a george bell redhouse and another george 1792 Norfolk.

    I have found a death for Ann Redhouse 16 feb 1851 @ 28 Rutland Street, Shoreditch - born c1796.

elsabels suggested looking for the link Lighterman, I have found that all lightermen of london were recorded as apprentices, masters etc.. I have emailed today applying for further information of the family of Redhouse Lightermen ! - maybe this will shed some light on the family.

at present I am thinking that they didnt marry and that maybe jemima just took the name mansell. many of my mansells were born and baptised in london, but also baptised in Horley, surrey and this marriage is one of the only ones that isnt recorded there too. ..... he was 10 years older than her, so i wonder if there was another issue somewhere.

    Lisa

I think John Mansell may have been employed bu East India Co, looking at the above info he is unlikely to have been in the Army.

Check this out for reference to West India Tea Co East India Co / West India Tea Co

Think you need birth certificate of one of the 3 children if you haven't got it already!.

Have you seen the baptism entry for the first child, it was a Private Baptism

    Quarter of Registration:Apr-May-Jun
    District:Pancras (1837-1901)

yes. the first child died, he was baptised aug and died aug. I havent got his death cert.

i have a couple of the birth certs and they say Jemima Redhouse, mother.

I hadnt found Jemima, a daughter? will look this up later.
    thanks

p.s. the lighterman was a dead end.. had a reply from the person who holds records of all lightermen of the thames:
"I have quickly checked the surname REDHOUSE and have not found anyone with this surname within the data. I can only assume he was a canal lighterman and did not work on the navigational area of the Thames when he would have needed a licence. Sometimes negative information is just as good as positive."

keep looking i guess..... thanks all.
