Default Help Finding Out Where Someone Was Buried/Info on St.Vincent's Hospice in Old Swan

    Hello,

I am researching my great grandparents who were originally from lreland but moved to Liverpool between 1885 and 1901. I just received a death certificate for my great grandmother "Julia O'Hare". At least I believe it is the correct one, the name and age are correct and her husband's name and profession look correct. She died at St. Vincent's Hospice in Old Swan on December 14, 1923.

Can anyone tell me if St. Vincent's Hospice still exists or if their records might be found somewhere? I can't find any information on it. I was hoping the death certificate would tell me where Julia was buried but it doesn't. Any suggestions on how I might find out her burial information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Maureen

    Hello

It is usual for funerals etc to be arranged with an undertaker by the family, the deceased to be buried in a local cemetery. What is the address of her husband?

LANCASHIRE REFORMATORY SCHOOL FOR ROMAN CATHOLIC GIRLS, MAY PLACE, BROAD GREEN LANE, OLD SWAN, LIVERPOOL, LANCASHIRE.
    a.k.a
BLACKBROOKE REFORMATORY SCHOOL FOR ROMAN CATHOLIC GIRLS, ST. HELEN'S, LANCASHIRE.

Originally at Blackbrooke House, St. Helens, where it was certified 23rd June 1869. But circumstances delayed the actual commencement of the school until the following October, when the first girl was admitted.
Moved to Liverpool and re-certified 24th November 1876 for 70 girls and again, re-certified 3rd March 1902 for 75 girls.
Cessation of certification or closure 1922
May Place as far as my wife can remember used to be called St.Vincent's Hospice prior to falling into disrepair and reopening under its original name of May Place as sheltered accommodation. When it was St.Vincent's Hospice it was run by nuns and was basically an asylum, or it seemed to be when her Nan was in there.
If the above is correct then it would appear the Hospice was run by nuns. So the catholic church might be were you start. People were admiited from all across Liverpool and Wirral, I found someone who died there in 1923 but was buried in Beddington which would suggest the buial was down to the family
