. Yes, I do have a brick wall that I would really like help with, please. I have a paid sub to TheGenealogist where most of my research has been done; as well as the obvious FreeBMD, LancsOPC and WiganWorld sites. So my problem is to place my ancestor (only by marriage) in 1891 and the details are:
Peter TABERNER (it has many variants) b.1848 – this could be his registration as the mother’s name is right
TABERNER Peter Hindley Wigan & Leigh LOWTON HNDL/8/133
In 1881 he is living with his wife Elizabeth (unknown) and daughter Margaret age 3.
Peter TABERNER Head M Male 33 Ince, Lancashire, Coal Miner
Elizabeth TABERNER Wife M Female 29 Ince, Lancashire, England Margaret TABERNER Daur Female 3 Ince, Lancashire, England John ROGERS Boarder M Male 27 Ince, Lancs Coal Miner

Census Place Ince In Makerfield, Lancashire, England
Family History Library Film 1341903
Public Records Office Reference RG11
Piece / Folio 3777 / 92 Page Number 1
In late 1881/early 1882 they have a second daughter, Elizabeth. Possibly one of the following but I don’t have the finances for certs:
Births Dec 1881
TABERNER Elizabeth Wigan 8c 86
Births Mar 1882
TABERNER Elizabeth Wigan 8c 185
This Elizabeth went on to marry Levi BRISCOE as follows:
Marriage: 11 May 1901 St Peter, Hindley, Lancashire, England
Levi Briscoe - 20 Miner Bachelor of 1 Platt Street
Elizabeth Taberner - 20 Spinster of 1 Platt Street
Bride's Father: Peter Taberner, Miner
Witness: Herbert Edwin Cooke; Margaret Jolley
Married by Banns by: James W. Jacobs
Notes: [Groom's father not named but recorded as Dead]
Register: Marriages 1889 - 1902, Page 227, Entry 454
Source: Original register at Wigan Archives
By 1891 I am unable to find any of the 4 TABERNER family.
By 1901 Peter (now widowed) and his 19 year old daughter Elizabeth are living with Peter’s widowed sister Ellen SMITH.
I found the death of an Elizabeth TABERNER which matches her age if we take the 29 she claimed in 1881 as correct:
Deaths Mar 1885
TABERNER Elizabeth 34 Wigan 8c 62
I know details of Peter’s parents and 5 siblings. What I would like to find is the family in 1891, if it is still a family. It’s also possible that finding Levi BRISCOE and Elizabeth (TABERNER) in the 1911 could throw some light onto it but I don’t have access to that census. Also just who Peter’s wife is.
I can't count how many hours I've spent on this and would so much love some help.
Thanks,
Maid of Kent
