    Exclamation James Hunt 14 / 1 / 1847

thank you to BIG Help.. I'm scratching my head with my great grandfather!

James (Charles?) Hunt was born 14 Jan 1847 at 6, Victoria Terrace, St.Johns Wood, Marylebone and died 27 Dec 1911 in Hounslow, Middx (memorial stone and certificates confirm).

His mother on birth certificate is Sophia Hunt but no father's name present.

In census's his place of birth varies from Middx - St Johns Wood (1861), Middx - Kensington (1871), London NK (1881), London - St. Johns Wood (1891), St. Johns Wood - Middx (1901) and London - Middx (1911).

I am happy I have the right man from 1871 census onwards but 1861 he is lodging with Sarah and Charles Culley, occupation as greengrocer and I can only find a James Hunt in 1851 in the Foundling Hospital.

I have been told about a James Hunt being baptised at St. Mary's, Richmond, Surrey on 22 Sep 1847 with parents as Charles John Hunt and Sophia Sarah Hunt. This appears tantalising good but with James being born probably in St. Johns Wood??

James states his father as a Charles Hunt (deceased) - Drapers Assistant on his marriage certificate (to Elizabeth Sarah Dyer) on 29 Mar 1869 whereas on the Richmond baptism the father is a butler.

It would be wonderful to know I have the correct James Hunt to be able to, hopefully, trace further back. I have a family tree running on a well-known website for reference.

Thanks so much - Richard Hunt.

Hi, I found this site whilst researching a family name, and this post came up on the top of the search. I've become a member, so I can hopefully help with this post. Your descendant JAMES HUNT is a different person to the details shown on Elsabels details...as I can confirm that they are my ancestors. I wish you well in your search for your JAMES HUNT ....Kind Regards, KT
