Hi
I have hit a brick wall and just can't get any further so here's hoping you can help. I am trying to find out more about my Great Grandfather a William Matthew Jones and his history / father. Here is all the information I have so far. William Matthew was born around 1874 / 1875 in or around Derby, (or derbyshire?). He married Hannah Wiles in Nottingham in April 1899 aged 23 and at the time of his marriage he was a milkman on a farm. His father, Joseph Jones, was deceased by the time of his marriage and was possibly a Drover, (Writing is hard to read on the marriage certificate). There is no further information on Joseph or his spouse. In the 1911 census William is shown as living and working in Boston Lincolnshire and his occupation was a General Labourer aged 37. He is living with wife Hannah, born in March, Cambs and children, Arthur William, aged 14, born in Nordelph, Norfolk. Another son, Ernest Edward Jones, aged 8, born in Nordelph, Norfolk, (my grandfather), two further sons, George H aged 6, John W aged 3, and a daughter, Eunice P aged 1, all born in Nordelph, Norfolk.
Wife, Hannah (nee Wiles), was born in March, Cambridgeshire, on 2nd Oct in 1876. She was baptised on 16th June 1879 in the Holy Trinty Church, Nordelph, Norfolk. Her father was also called Joseph and he was a labourer, born around 1852. His wife was called Sarah, (nee Remington) born around 1850. Hannah first appears in the 1881 census aged 4 living in Denver Cambs. She appears again in the 1891 census aged 14 and was working as a field worker in Cambs. She appears again in the 1901 census as Hannah Jones aged 24, living in March, Cambs with a son, William aged 3, (born in Nottingham), and visitor, Lucy, her sister aged 21. She finally appears in the 1911 census aged 36 as detailed above with William.
I can't make out the witnesses on the certificate as it's very hard to read on both the copy and the original certificate. The marriage was solemnized at the registry office in Nottingham in 1899.This is as much as I have so any pointers help or advice on where to go next would be gratefully received!!
Many Thanks
Chris
