Yes that is the Occupation but I do not know about the miss spelling. PLARTUER
was using the French word Plartuer Meaning someone who plants out probably seeds.

No it is a Farm or large Property by the description. I will have another look and let you know

I have had another look I think maybe it was a Lodging House As you will see I have added
Occupations of all on the List. it is a pity they will not allow viewing of the original images
perhaps by next year it may happen

    Default McLean

    Hi --

    1851 Scotland Census
    Donald Mclean | 33| abt 1818 | head | born Stornoway Ross | Parish # 88 | Stornoway, Ross and Cromarty| Cromwell St | Occupation Shipmaster
Household members: Donald Mclean 33 Ann Mclean 27 Margt Mclean 2 Mary Ann Mclean 5 MO
Margaret Farguson 23 Alexander Mckenzie 25

Source Citation: Parish: Stornoway; ED: 7; Page: 9; Line: 70; Roll: 909; Year: 1851.

I found this but no occupation:
    1841 Scotland Census
    Donald McLean | 20 | abt 1821 | born: Ross and Cromarty, Scotland | Civil parish: Stornoway, Ross and Cromarty | | Tong | Parish # 88

Household Members: Duncan McLean 65 Ann McLean 70 Mary McLean 20 Donald McLean 20

Source Citation: Parish: Stornoway; ED: 3; Page: 13; Line: 650; Roll: ; Year: 1841

Also found a Donald McLean 20 | abt 1821 | born: Ross and Cromarty, Scotland | Civil parish: Stornoway, Ross and Cromarty | Melbost | Parish # 88 | Occ Ag Lab

Household members: Christina Mcgregor 18 Ann Mcgregor 16 Roderick Mcgregor 14 Mary Mcgregor 10 Alexander Mcgregor 7 Margaret Mcgregor 5 George Mcgregor 3 Murdo Smith 22 Donald Mcleod 19 Kenneth Mcdonald 17 Christian Mcdonald 30 Catherine McLeod 25 Mary Mckenzie 21 Donald McLean 20

Source Citation: Parish: Stornoway; ED: 8; Page: 1; Line: 980; Roll: ; Year: 1841

The ages of people over 15 years old were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 years. Therefore, someone who was actually 24 years would have their age listed as 20, and someone who was actually 27 years old would have their age listed as 25. If people lied about their ages, or if their real ages were not known or reported correctly, the gap between the rounded age recorded on the census and their actual age may be quite significant.

yes- i have 1851 census that you have put down here, but on 1841 census i think if duncan is donalds father its the wrong one as donalds father was finlay and mother margaret mcdonald, although it could be grandparents i suppose , i will have to find finlays parents to verify that, the second 1841 is odd as donald wed ann mckenzie and there is a mary mckenzie on it? it would be so much better if it stated occupation i know, but many thanks to you for your help x
