    Exclamation Sergeant Robert Harper

My Great x5 grandfather was Robert Harper who joined the Kilkenny militia in 1805 aged 35 in Strabane, Co Tyrone. So I believe he was born in 1770. On his papers he states that he is living in Aghavea Co Fermanagh. He married Elizabeth Duncan date unknown, location unknown. He became a sergeant in the Kilkenny militia and was discharged in 1825. We dont know where he was based but rumour has it that he fought in Waterloo. Who were his parents, siblings, what did he do before 1805, where was Elizabeth from, where did they get married and did he really fight in Waterloo, So many questions and after twenty years of research, I am no further on....Please, please help me

    Hello

As you have already seen the service record.....

Maybe you need to find out where the Kilkenny Militia were based between 1805 - 1825, try book.google.co.uk or just plain google.co.uk or wikipedia

    Hi Lorelei.

There is no record of a Robert Harper on the Waterloo Medal Roll.

If you go to Google books as Elsabels suggests, and then 1) Select 'Advanced Book Search' 2) Select the option 'Full View Only' 3) Type the keywords "Kilkenny Militia" (with the inverted commas) quite a few works will come up that may be of assistance.

Thank you for checking the Waterloo Medal Roll. A long time ago I had looked at it and had come to the conclusion that there was no Robert Harper there but it is great to have it confirmed.
Thanks for the suggestion of google books, I am checking it out but so far have not discovered anything.
    Thank you again
    Lorelei
