    Exclamation Mary Ann Hooper

My Brick wall is my 2x Great Grandmother Mary Ann Hooper - She was born on the 30th September 1859 at 49 Alcock Street, Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire. Her father was Henry Hooper and her mother was Charlotte Bray. She had my Great Grandfather Ernest Probin Hooper on the 2nd July 1875 - his birth certificate does not show a father. I can trace her upto 1881 on the census still living at 49 Alcock street, she then disappears.
She did not raise Ernest - not sure who did. The 'story' is that she had 2 daughters, we do not know if she married and then had the children or if they also were born illegitimately. I have looked everywhere I can and any help on what happened to her would be great. Also, if anyone could advise if there is any way I can find out who Ernest's father was. Thanks for any help you can give

    Hi
If the name "PROBIN" is not a known family name from Mary Ann's side - it's possible this was the surname of his birth father. Perhaps even "Ernest" was the father's first name. It wasn't uncommon for children to recieve the surname of their father as a middle name.

I note in the 1881 Census:
Mary Ann, 21 unmarried, in the household of her widower father, Henry Hooper.
Her son, listed as Grandson (to Henry), is enumerated as: Ernest PROBIN, 5, b Soho Handsworth, Birmingham.

In 1891, Ernest, age 15 appears to be enumerated as the 'adopted son' of William & Harriet BUGGINS.
Their daughter Kate, married a Henry HOOPER in 1883, and was a widowed mother of 1 son, by 1891 - living in her parents household.

1891: 76 Watery Lane, Aston Deritend, Birmingham,
    RG12 / Piece: 2412 / Folio 111 / Page 31
Head: William BUGGINS 54, Carter, b Kings Norton, Worc.
Wife: Harriet BUGGINS 52, b Leicester
Dau: Kate HOOPER 29, widow, Venetian Blind maker, b Moseley, Worc.
Dau: Ellen E BUGGINS 19, single, Rule Maker, b Kings Norton, Worc.
Son: John T BUGGINS 15, Umbrella maker, b Birmingham, Warks.
Dau: Laura BUGGINS 12, Scholar, b Birmingham, Warks.
Dau; Edith BUGGINS 8, Scholar,b Birmingham, Warks.
Grandson: Harry HOOPER 4, b Birmingham, Warks.
Ad Son: Ernest Proberdyke? (Parberdyke?) HOOPER 15, Screw Q---ing [Bolt], b Birmingham, Warks.

MARRIAGE: Kate BUGGINS/ Henry HOOPER - Sep Qtr 1883 Aston
DEATH: Henry HOOPER age 23, Birmingham

Mary Ann - Ernest's mother - had a brother Henry HOOPER, who was born abt 1864 (according to 1871 Census).

    Cheers
    Annie B
