Yes I think they are interchangeable. We tend to think of Fanny as been a shortened version of Frances - but it used to be a name in its own right and was very popular at one time. As far as I am aware this was sometimes shortened to Fann or Ann

Hi Ed , i traced the marraige of Ann but not her birth in Oxford, Was she born there ?
I found her on census'es as Ann and she was born Oxford, this could be wrong as she maybe thought that was her birthplace.

Thanks Hazelnut and pejay.
Fanny could be my Ann or maybe her birth was not registered.
Ed
Just looked on census Ed, she was born Iffley Oxfordshire
Yes sometimes census give Iffley and other times Oxford. Too bad Fanny in 1841 did not have a father with her.
thanks
