Default What is in a name?

Are Ann and Fanny interchangeable ? Trying to trace Ann Jenkins who married Joseph Goodey 1857 Oxford. Census show birth abt 1838-40. Can find no birth registration for Ann Jenkins but can for Fanny 1838.

Yes I think they are interchangeable. We tend to think of Fanny as been a shortened version of Frances - but it used to be a name in its own right and was very popular at one time. As far as I am aware this was sometimes shortened to Fann or Ann

I found her on census'es as Ann and she was born Oxford, this could be wrong as she maybe thought that was her birthplace.

    Thanks Hazelnut and pejay.
Fanny could be my Ann or maybe her birth was not registered.

Yes sometimes census give Iffley and other times Oxford. Too bad Fanny in 1841 did not have a father with her.

    thanks
