Thread: Henry NICHOLSON

Looking for info on my grandfather's parents.
My grandfather William Henry NICHOLSON b. 1872 Belfast, Co.Down came to Toronto Canada in 1913 d. Toronto, ONtario Canada 1950
His father Henry NICHOLSON (labourer) is listed on William's 1st civil marriage records Belfast, Feb 25,1898 and again on William's 2nd marriage to my grandmother Isabella GLENNIE (Glenny) in Belfast, Dec.24,1902 (B'Macarrett St.Patrick's Church of Ireland) but we have had no luck whatsoever in finding out any further info on William's father and mother.

Thanks so much for your suggestion about buying the certficate.

We were planning on that until we discovered that we cannot get the birth certificate without
listing William's mother's name and address at the time of his birth. That is information we can't seem
to find......so round and round we go!

Thanks for the info you posted re William H Nicholson.

We do however have documented info that supports our William coming to Canada in 1913, followed in 1914 by his wife & children --one of whom was my mother. We have followed his military career through WW 1 & his safe return home to Toronto, Canada
where he remained until his death in 1950.

Our brickwall is tracing information regarding Williams' birth in Belfast, Co.Down Jan.14,1872. We've picked up a trail in 1898 with his first marriage to Mary Wightman in Co.Down, then his 2nd marriage as a widower in 1902 in Co.Down to my grandmother, Isabella Glennie.
We know his father was Henry, a labourer, from these marriage records but that's all we have.

We've been very successful tracing the Glennie family back to Scotland but we sure are stuck in Belfast with Grampa Nicholson!

We have William's birthdate & place of birth from his military paperwork & ships passenger list
but we don't have any official documents......I tried goireland to see about applying for a copy of the
certificate but they too require the birth mother's maiden name which we do not have

so we will just keep on digging, and digging.......
