I am trying to gain information for my wife's family tree. I don't seem to have got too far before drawing the usual blank.
All we know is that Edward was born in Poplar (Canning Town) East London in 1888 he joined the RN at a very early age and that he married a Beatrice Whitehouse. I just cannot seem to find anything further back than that.
Any help would be gratefully accepted

Hi Mike.
Have you obtained a copy of his birth certificate? That will give you details of his parents, including his mother's maiden name.

Emma Pritchard (Widow) 35 yrs Mat Darner, b. Islington.
William '' 7 yrs b. Limehouse.
Edward '' 3 yrs. b. Poplar.
Assuming the birth above to be the correct one, a tree on A******* shows Edward's parents to be Henry Pritchard (1849 - 1889) and Emma Lydia Johnson (1854 - 1931).
They married April/June quarter 1884, Bethnal Green District, Vol. 1c Page 406 refers.
Emma Lydia Johnson, born July/September quarter 1852, St Martin in the Fields Reg. Dist. (Middlesex)
Vol. 1a Page 280 refers.
Henry Pritchard, died April/June quarter 1889, age 40 yrs. Poplar Reg. Dist. Vol. 1c Page 344 refers.
