George Lamb
Born c1853
Died 05 Oct 1912 aged 59
Laurel Bank, Walkerburn, Peeblesshire, Scotland.
1st Marriage to Margaret “Maggie” Riddle Blake
05 May 1877
Rochdale, England.
George and Maggie were both born in Roxburghshire, Scotland and made there home in Hawick. Why they married in Rochdale I've no idea.
Maggie died in 1879 one month after giving birth to their first son Thomas, Shiel Lamb.
George moved to Walkerburn in the county of Peebles, Scotland and married his second wife Agnes.
2nd Marriage to Agnes Christison
02 Jun 1882
Tweedvale Cottages, Walkerburn, Scotland.
Mother of George Lamb was Phillis Lamb.
(I have found three variants of her name on 3 separate entries – Phyllis, Phillis and even Fillies.
Born c 1830
Died 28 02 1905 aged 71
It showed on the entry for her death that she was the widow of Thomas Shiel and that she was illegitemate - showing only her mother as Betsy Lamb
Phillis married Thomas Shiel 9th June 1865 (aged 35)
when George would have been 8
Was Thomas Shiel his father and he just married his mother much later.
If so why did he carry the name Lamb to his death.
The entry for George’s second marriage only shows his mother’s as Phyllis Shiel, Maiden surname as LAMB no father.
The entry for his death shows no mother and no father.
One curious thing which may be important, is that when George married
Margaret “Maggie” Riddle Blake, 05 May 1877, Rochdale, they called their only son Thomas Shiel Lamb?
Can anyone help me find the name George Lamb’s real father?
Thank-you
