Thomas Joseph Patten

I live in New Zealand and have tracked down a possible relative. We share similar features, but his Great grandfather was Thomas Joseph Patten from Ireland (he arrived in NZ sometime before 1892, possibly with a brother, and was born after 1850) But neither of us can find out when and how he came to NZ. The interesting bit is that Thomas joseph patten bought the property belonging to MY great great great grandfather in Onehunga NZ Thomas Patten who came to NZ in 1849 from Stockport, Cheshire, England. Now, I am sure they are related but how can I find out?? Thanks ken

Have you tried searching the family line through Familysearch.org and the early census ? Also try Cyndis list , it includes Ships and passenger lists
Notice Patten family on there .

Do you have the 1841 census reference and what other family information do you have on him to enable a search to be made?

This is about the only information you can find about the ship, The Berhampore, Thomas and Mary Patten came to New Zealand on in 1849 as fencibles. I have collated these bits of information found on various web sites.

The tree has Thomas in Onehunga married to Mary Myers from Tipperary. What was Thomas's occupation?
