Can anyone help please....been going round in circles for ages now and just getting nowhere. My ggg- grandad George Hillier was married to Keziah Chandler in Woodborough 1836 and they had 2 children - William b. 1838 & Thomas (my gg.grandad) b.1841. Keziah died 3wks after Thomas was born, and on the 1841 census it shows George(down as GEO HILLIER) living in Honey Street Pewsey (is that still Woodborough)??? with young William but a few doors away Thomas is in the Carpel household I presume with a nursing mother because the wife had a child of the same age 10wks.
In the 1851 census the 2 boys are in a workhouse union ( Devizes I think ) but no sign of George - does this mean he was just out when they did the census or had he already died?
On Thomas's marraige cert in 1864(Bristol) to Ellen Emma Howell/s....it states George Hillier was deceased. I am trying to find ....
1. When George Hillier was born and where. (so I can go back further on the Hillier line)
2. What year did they go in to the workhouse.
3. When did he pass away.
4. Will there be info on his marriage cert to Keziah where he came from or was that not recorded at that time with it being Parish records.
There are so many George Hillier's around that time I just don't know which one is the correct one.
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wendymac
