    Exclamation Joseph CLEWLEY

    Hi
I am trying to find the parents of Joseph CLEWLEY (Cluely) born in 1786 (parish baptism records) in Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire. Parents are Joseph and Elizabeth – I can find no evidence of siblings, or of a marriage or death/s. I have reason to believe that Joseph (father) may have been born in Baswich, Staffordshire. I base this assumption on the fact that I have found records of a William and George Clewley in Oxfordshire with dates of burial tying in with know birth dates of George and William, brothers of Joseph (Baswich). I have a copy of the 1841 census where George states he was born in Staffordshire.

Can anyone help, it would be much appreciated?
    Many thanks.

These all have the parents Joseph and Elizabeth. I do not know if they are related to Joseph born in Aston Rowant.

This is the only marriage I could find in Baswich that fits. You need to check this and the data in the previous post on the parish records.

JOSEPH CLEWLEY - International Genealogical Index

Many thanks for this information and your replies.

You are quite right regarding the information on the Baswich Clewley’s, which I have verified by parish records. However, what I am hoping is to find some evidence that would support my theory that Joseph born in Baswich in 1757 is the father of Joseph born in Aston Rowant in 1786.

    Hello

The only way is to check out the Parish Register entry made at the time of the baptism, there maybe a 'local 'note identyfying the father i.e his trade or of and an adddress! etc

Identyfying other famillies in the locality and possibly creating mini trees!

Checking for a will, he may have made one!

    The parish accounts etc.
