    Exclamation Nora Veal

Nora Veal b 1887 Fulham married Edward John Courtenay Bernard (my grandfather) b 1877 Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
I have not been able to find a marriage record in the UK or Canada.
Courtenay's first record of arrival in Canada which I have found is 1906, he was bound for Frobisher, Manitoba.
They were later recorded as married and 'returning Canadians' in a later passenger list.
They farmed in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, lived in Winnipeg in 1919 when my father was born.
I would like to be able to docuent their marriage.
    Thank you.
    Tony Bernard in Canada

    Hi,
I have found Nora on the 1891 census:

The family were living in Hammersmith, London and are listed as follows:

George Veal age 35, living on own means-artist, born London
Ellen M Veal age 39, born Northampton
Charlotte L. E. Veal, age 9, born London
Nora Veal age 3, born London
John Veal age 1, born London
William J Adams age 25, auctioneer's student, born Northampton (he's stated as being George's step-son)
Ellen J Adams age 21, born Northamptonshire (step-daughter).

I have found a marriage of a Nora Veal to an Oscar Tyzack in 1909 in Fulham London. I have looked at search results of a later census than 1901, and they definately married. Here is the info you will need to order the certificate:

    Name:Nora VealYear of Registration:1909Quarter of Registration:Oct-Nov-DecDistrict:FulhamCounty:Greater London, London, MiddlesexVolume:1aPage:769

I checked the 1891 and 1901 census and according to them, Oscar was born c. 1887 in London.
I have been unable to find a death in the UK, but interestingly found this:

British Columbia Death Registrations, 1872-1986 for Oscar Tyzack

    Death Date:30 Nov 1957Death Place:Victoria, British Columbia, CanadaName:Oscar TyzackGender:MaleAge:70yBirth Date:18 Feb 1887Birthplace:London, EnglandMarital Status:MarriedSpouse:Emma Sophia McmeekanFather:Samuel TyzackMother:Emily ShuttleworthIndian Agency:Indian Band/Tribe:Film Number:2033184Digital Folder Number:4437678Image Number:2861British Columbia Archives Film Number:B13234Registration Number:57 09 012824

I checked back on the 1891 census, and Oscar's mother was called Emily and his father Samuel!

I'm not able to view the details, but a Nora Tyzack can be found on the Canadian Passenger Lists, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This may need more looking into, but hopefully I've given you a start!

    Mrsp

I found this marriage in the Drouin Collection. Nora is transcribed as “Verl”
Edward John Courtenay Bernard and Nora Veal were married at the Fairmont-Taylor Presbyterian Church, Montreal on 1 May 1924.
Signed Courtenay Bernard and Nora Veal. Witnesses were E.M Veal and sorry I can't read the other's handwriting.

The E.M. Neal witness must be Nora's mother,

Emma Mary Veal traveled on the Andaria 19 Oct 1922. States she is a widow, born Northampton. She was going to reside with her daughter and to remain in Canada permanently. Destination is Mr C Bernard, Montreal.

Nora’s brother John traveled on the Andaria 24 Sept 1923. States he is an engineer, born Cheswick, London. Destination was his relatives (mother E.M. Veal) St Anne de Bellevue, Montreal (same address as Courtenay and Nora on their wedding registration) and to remain in Canada permanently.
