    Exclamation John George Saunders

I have come to a standstill on my Grandfather (didnt get far eh!) all I know for certain is from his marriage cert.... John George Saunders - no idea of date of birth but over 21 when married in 1915 - Married Daisy Sarah Webster on 21st September 1915 - Sergeant 3/7 battln Essex Regiment - lived at 19 Richmond Rd at time of marriage - Father John George Saunders, Labourer.

I found a John George born in Woolwich 1894 but Im not convinced its him. Apart from the army records not quite matching my brother seems to be convinced he was born in Yorkshire (or up north somewhere at least), although he could be mistaken as he was young when Grandad died

Any help would be appreciated, Ive been searching for ages and just keep going round in circles. I really have no idea where else to check.

Thanks in advance for the time given to help me : )

    Hello

Your looking for John Geoge SAUNDERS at 1915 a Sergeant 3/7 battln Essex Regiment s/o JOhn George SAUNDERS a lab'r again at 1915 living at Richmond Road ( see Janet H. request)

The age of 'consent' was 21 years, therefore your grandfather is llikley to have been b circa <1894. That is of course that the info given is correct!

    1) Who are the witnesses on the marriage certificate, hopefully may be relatives of his!

    2) Do you know what your grandfather's date of birth was?

    3) Do you when and where your grandfather died, it is likely that the death certificate will show an approx age,

    4) Do you have his attestation papers if so what was his number, this will allow members to look at and decide the record they want to look for

    Hello Jan
Richmond Road was in Walthamstow, West Ham is the district, in Essex. I dont know of this is his parents address or he lived there on his own means, renting a room or whatever? My brother is convinvced he was born "up north" possibly Yorkshire, but I just dont know, the only thing my brother can think of is he used to call him "tosh" but I cant find that as a saying / term/ nickname anywhere in the country particularly, to try and narrow it down a bit.

    Hello Elsabels
The witnesses are the brides sister and her fiance. I have no idea of his DOB at all, dont even have a month. He died, I think, in Islington, London about 1953 but I cant even be sure of that? I know he lived in Islington when he died and it was apx 1953 ish, thats about it. I dont have any papers at all of his, the only thing I have is the marriage cetificate, I think thats why Im having so much trouble trying to chase him.

Thank you both for any help

    Regards
    Abbe

    Hi Abbe,
I was born in Westham and my Father was born in Clerkenwell very near to Islington.. Some of my ancestors were born in Woolwich and I found the Greenwich Family History Society to be very helpful and charge only a small fee...I posted this link a while back now on the Link and Tips Board so maybe it might be of some help to you as it covers Westham and Islington...Some time ago I was trying to find information in regards to a family member who was born in Woolwich but died in Bromley..With little information to go on I contacted the Bromley Council and they supplied me with further information..What about contacting Islington Council and ask if they can help...

Have you compared his signature on the marriage cert to the signed attestation papers, just wondering what the comparison was like as the records say he had previously been in the Scottish Rifles. Maybe he had been based up north
