Thread: John Ross

I have been trying to trace my Ross side of the family tree, but can't get any further than my Great Grandad. My Grandad was John Ross and was born at Invergordon in 1847. His mother was Catherine Thompson who was born at Dingwall in 1825. I have found these people on the relevant census's and my tree in on Ancestry. She was married to Peter Ross aka as Smart on 18th Oct 1844 at Invergordon. He is listed on some census's, but I can't find his parents with any certainty or go any further back. Any help would be grately appreciated.

Thank you for the informative reply. I have found a reference to Peter Ross Smart and an article where he was arrested for assault in 1836 and is called Peter Ross alias Smart, but can't find any other information. I have looked on Scotlands People and found a Peter and a Christian/Christina/Christy with parents called David and Margaret which seem to fit, but that's it.
